The ranDisney top 10 list for races

Top 10

If this is your first race, congrats on making it through the sign up process; that’s always stressful all on its own!

We put together our top 10 list to make your race memorable; take what you want and pass on the rest!

  1. Commit to the run - walk! For so long we all avoided this style of running for no particular reason. We crushed ourselves and had so many races where we were limping over the finish line. The run - walk is game changing. We like 90 seconds of running and 45 seconds of walking and we start at mile one even when it feels like we can run a lot farther! Your legs will thank you!

  2. Don’t commit to the run - walk! Be ready to throw away your interval. The second you or someone in your group needs more walking time or wants to slow down, speed up, stop for the bathroom, walk for a little longer, run for a little less time … change it up!

  3. Buy the merch! It’s often expensive, sometimes a bit tacky … and it’s so much fun to wear! You’ll want something to remember the race by!

  4. Stop for the pictures! The number of characters out on the course is mind-boggling and even the longest lines move quickly. Have your phone out and get the picture with your favorite characters or ones that will make your friends and family jealous! Are you sweaty? No one cares, we promise you!

  5. Bring the family! You will likely be done the races before too many people are even out of bed; bring the family and make the weekend an event! They don’t have to come cheer you on, but it will be fun to show them your medal!

  6. Bring the friends! The races are NOT just for families with kids. Bring the friends and make a weekend of it! Split up or stay together if you’re all running the races, just don’t run more than two people across!

  7. Leave WAY earlier than you think you need to! Listen, it sucks. It really does. Setting your alarm for 3:30 AM is truly a mental struggle. But get in line for the bus early, be in the corrals early. The entertainment is fun enough and it’s better than starting stressed out about if you’ll make it!

  8. Don’t do a full park day before the marathon! We love a good Disney Springs day or a pool day the day before the marathon. Especially for those doing a Challenge, spend some time off your feet the day before you toss 26.2 miles on them!

  9. Don’t go for a PR! Personal Records are awesome and the elevation of the course is so enticing. If you need a qualifying time for another race, by all means go for your time. All finishers get the same medal though; enjoy the race!

  10. Ignore all Top 10 lists! These races have every single type of person you could possibly think of. Make the race your own and do whatever you want!

Have so much fun! Let us know how it goes!
